1831 Jan van Speijk, Dutch gunboat commander - boat N° 2, commander during the Belgian uprising, on 5 February 1831 his ship drifted on the Scheldt, due to strong winds and a malfunctioning anchor, to the side where an angry crowd jumped on his ship, whereupon Van Speijk uttered the historic last words "Then I'd rather go up in smoke" and blew up the boat.
